About writing of the thesis

Concept : stimulating emotion of people through rhythm in nature.

As I mentioned about my thesis, I always put first people when I do something. I‘ve thought how I can touch people's nice, sensitive and emotional part. I want to touch their mind through the work like other most artists including fun of them.

To touch emotion of human being, the music and the visual motion image is best.I was interested in OSC as a tool. so I choice touch OSC to participate people to my work. I like the interative media art because they are able to get together with the audience. They don't make to be excluded the audience like other contemparary art. On the contrary to this, they induce people to be part of the work.

I want to look for the context between nature and people's emotion part. We can see the nature in the most Asian ancient painting. My work visualize Chinese black ink landscape painting and that is including a experience of poeple through playing music with touch OSC.

I try to read the some thesises and the books about asian ancient art and the music, media art and experience design to look for relationship and the context with my work lately.

I'm not sure if I approach well for my thesis writing.
I hope you give me a good advice for them.

Sound visualization by touch OSC



Rythem in nature.
I wanted to visualize sky line of the mountains like Chinese ancient landscape painting. I think it would be going well. I think I need to adjust sound source again and again.

Developing sound source



I still try to develope sound source with Logic pro. It is not easy because I don't have any proper musical knowledge. but I'm looking forward to find out the sound of Asian traditonal feeling.

Interactive shapes and patterns through touch OSC with Maxmsp/jitter



















Visual patch for the interactiv sound and motion



'send~ advi'object of 'groove'patch below sends sound data and 'visual'patch receive that data.

'fffb~' object implements a bank of bandpass filter objects .An input signal is applied to all filters.

Sound is the mix of frequency. The human can hear voice range of about 22,000Hz.
'loadmess freq' object is able to visualize special range of voice or sound. My marimba sound source is proper range about 700Hz.I connected that to z-axis of Jitter.so whenever sound reach to jitter, that interact with sound and motion.

'open' message opens web camera to grab the face's silhouette in front of the camera.
'jit. rgb2luma'object make capturing face's silhouette as a grayscale mode.
'p backgroundDiff'object catches white face's silhouette and delay moving of white part of face.
'p accumLuma' visualize the elasticity in the shape.

Groove patch for playing sound



'read'message opens the sound source and 'buffer~'object works as a buffer of memory in which samples are stored to be save.

'r que1' object receves data from 's que1' object of main patch. That is start butten of this patch and 'r start'object is power switch of whole patch. 'r speed1' object adjusts speed of sound. 'r loop' is looping of sound. All of them gets the data from 'udpreceive' patch connected with Touch OSC.

The groove~ object is a variable-rate, looping, sample-playback object which references the audio information stored in a buffer~ object having the same name.

I made six buttons to play sounds.Therefore, I made six groove patchs to connect with buttons of Touch OSC.
